What is Connect with a Vet?

Connect with a Vet is Chewy’s service providing telehealth for dogs and cats. Our team is made up of online vets and vet techs. Online vet visits with our team are a fast, easy way to get answers for your pet-related questions and concerns.

Virtual vet consults are supplementary to in-office visits. Our telehealth team cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions or prescribe medications for your pet.

The Connect with a Vet telehealth team is here to help address a wide range of questions about your dog or cat.

When your pet is having symptoms of an illness or injury, or you have questions about their well-being, our veterinarians and veterinary technicians can help. Use our live chat to get free online vet help for questions like:

  • “My dog ate chocolate [or socks, or sneakers—you know how it is]. Does he need emergency care?”
  • “My cat has been scratching at her ears this week. How can I get her some relief?”
  • “My dog is showing signs of separation anxiety. What can I do to calm her down when I leave the house?”

 

In addition to providing guidance, our online vets and vet techs can help you understand the urgency of your pet’s situation and advise you about seeking in-person or emergency care. If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening situation, please go directly to the closest veterinary clinic.

There are two easy ways to connect with our veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Live Chat consults will connect you instantly, so you can get advice right when you need it. Use the text-based live chat to exchange messages, pictures, and videos with the veterinarian or veterinary technician.

Video Consults are scheduled in advance, so you can select a date and time that works best for you. There are usually same-day appointments available, or you can schedule a video call up to 2 weeks in advance. All video consults are 15-minutes long. You’ll be able to see and talk with the online vet or vet tech, as well as show your pet on camera.

The price for a single video appointment (15-minutes) is $19.99.

Video calls are free with certain CarePlus* pet insurance plans.

Connect with a Vet veterinarians and veterinary technicians cannot prescribe medication for your pet or authorize medication refills. Please consult your local veterinary clinic for help with medications. If you aren’t sure where to go, our telehealth team can refer you to a veterinary clinic in your area.

Live chat consults with an online vet or vet tech are available from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. Eastern Time, and video consults are available from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Our expert telehealth team is here 365 days a year, including holidays.

Connect with a Vet is currently available to customers nationwide, except customers residing in Alaska, Georgia, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.

Currently, Connect with a Vet is only available for dogs and cats.
